BYD Han L EV Sets New Benchmark for Fast Charging on Third-Party Chargers

The recently launched BYD Han L, the first model to feature BYD’s “Super e-Platform Technology,” supports megawatt fast charging with a charging power of up to 1000kW, enabling a 400 km range in just 5 minutes. This makes it one of the fastest-charging mass-produced vehicles globally.

However, some netizens have expressed concerns about the limited number of BYD megawatt fast charging stations, suggesting that on ordinary third-party chargers, the Han L’s charging speed might not differ significantly from other electric vehicles. To address this question, blogger @XiangBuBuDian recently conducted a dual-gun fast charging test on the BYD Han L EV AWD version using a third-party fast charger.

The blogger chose a 240kW Star Charge station for the dual-gun charging test. The released charging test video shows that the BYD Han L charged from 1% to 100% in just 19 minutes and 25 seconds. This means that in less than 20 minutes, the vehicle’s 83.2kWh battery pack was fully charged on an ordinary third-party fast charger.

The blogger further analyzed the Han L’s charging process. During the 1%-7% charging phase, the battery heating lasted for 1 minute and 31 seconds. Subsequently, starting from 7%, the charging power peaked at around 425kW and remained at this level until 65%, after which it dropped below 400kW. Overall, charging from 1% to 80% took 11 minutes and 58 seconds, while charging from 80% to 100% took 7 minutes and 27 seconds. For electric vehicle owners, the 0-80% charge range is the most commonly used for daily top-ups, meaning that on ordinary third-party fast chargers, owners can complete their daily charging in just about 10 minutes.

This test result demonstrates that the BYD Han L also possesses ultra-fast charging capabilities on ordinary third-party chargers, significantly alleviating users’ “range anxiety.” The Han L’s performance on third-party chargers not only highlights the advanced technology of BYD’s Super e-Platform but also sets a new standard for fast charging in the electric vehicle industry. This development is expected to drive further advancements in charging infrastructure and technology, making electric vehicles more convenient and accessible for a broader range of users.
